I left Arusha on the 21st just to go the half hour to Tengeru. Wanted a cup of tea and was directed to the Triple K . Was pleased because the place was recommended by Bonny…not for tea though ! I wanted tea; too early for anything else. Sat out another rain storm then walked 20 mins to James n Jovita’s house. Very nice couple, and it was a bonus to be offered a bed for the night. James had to book rooms for friends at the Lake Duluti Lodge, so a good excuse to visit somewhere that was managed by my step bro until Feb, and a place where both Gabriella and I have stayed on separate occasions as Bonny’s guests.
A couple of beers at Triple K with James, during which a newly married couple who we saw at L Duluti lodge having wedding photos taken, turned up for their wedding reception… so, quite lively. Dinner of little/tiny fried fish…not my favourite.
Left on Saturday midday. Walked up to the main road and at the fourth attempt a bus stopped that had an empty seat for me. An hour and a half and I was in Moshi. Checked into my favourite lodge which has a nice garden and good WiFi. Also faces My Kilimanjaro….but only a plus if clouds aren’t obscuring the mountain.
My mission to check out the Greek church was successful….only a 10 minute walk up the road, but after trawling through the various sections of cemetery I was unsuccessful in finding any Greek graves. I did encounter an absolutely gorgeous woman at the church and had to go back the next morning to take a photo !
Had dinner at Kakas … of course… but went for a chicken curry instead of the usual tandoori chicken; delicious, but next time tandoori. Got talking to a Swedish family that evening..and next morning at breakfast..which was fun.
So, Mon 23rd got a matatu to Himo…nearly an hour…and met up with Emil 2, a friend from Dar and spent a couple of hours chatting and drinking tea. A five minute walk to the matatu stage a soon on my way to Holili. Stopped off at Dubai for a kiti moto….Sat out another torrential downpour. Then, crossed the border and checked into Market View hotel.
So, it’s Sat 28th. Spent all week hanging out and catching up with lots of friends. Took Mercy out to dinner on Wed for a combination birthday and xmas. Am in the process of fixing up the bike so that I go off in various directions and explore. The bike only works when I’m here to fix it !!
I caught a quick glimpse of Kili this morning; perhaps the clouds will clear one day….
