A couple of relaxing days spent at Kilifi, and the Titanic hotel didn’t disappoint apart from the very poor WiFi. However, this prompted me eventually to buy bundles in Mombasa which gives me more freedom to communicate rather than always looking for a hotel with WiFi.

On Thurs I walked 45 mins to the further beach, Vindazi, before meeting Maina at the Zimbabwe bar. Got a boda boda back to the hotel before trying somewhere new for dinner. Not impressed with the Titanic food, but the chicken curry at Ocean was very good … lots of meat. Met Freda there who remembers me from the Challa hotel in Taveta.

Friday morning I walked over the bridge to the other side of the creek. I got down to the beach via a steep slope, holding onto tree roots….the route I have always taken. When returning, some guys told me there were steps just a bit further on; had I turned left instead of right at the top I would’ve discovered those steps !!! A haircut and a half hour walk to Baobab beach followed by meeting Maina in Zimbabwe. The chicken curry at ocean was even better that evening.

On Saturday I had a nice mango juice in the presence of Maina then caught the midday Matatu to Bamburi … an hour and a quarter. Found the hotel I had used in the past was no longer operational, but a better and cheaper hotel was just around the corner. Walked to Pirates beach then back to Drips bar to watch UK football. Got a Matatu to the Splendid View cafe for a tikka and back to the bar to watch football. The Splendid was where the family enjoyed going when we had holidays in Mombasa. The guy thrte9still remembers Dad very well.

On Sunday I walked the length of bamburi beach and watched football later in the afternoon. Had hoped to see Bonny, my step bro, but he was late into Mombasa from the Mara and we didn’t meet up until Monday morning.

In the early afternoon I travelled to ferry and on reaching the other side I hot a Matatu to the junction with Shimoni. A nice 15km boda boda ride to Shimoni on the new tarmac road and a pleasant evening spent at Jannett’s place. I met Jannett last year and she kindly put me up for the night. Today I’m heading across the border back to TZ.
