I left early from Kilifi by Matatu to Kaloleni. This route cuts hours off the journey by passing Mombasa . Declined the offer of a Matatu; a tuk tuk only requires 3 passengers and we were soon off. At Mariakani I only needed to cross the highway to a waiting bus and 5 minutes or so later we were off. Good trip just under 2 hours to Voi. Didn’t have to wait long to be under way to Taveta.

I had no choice but to sit on the left side of the Nissan and I knew most of the game would be on the right. No elephants to be seen this time anyway, but lots of zebra and half a dozen ostrich.

With a mile to go, about 4 people wanted to get off and because I was sat by the main door I had to get out each time. Slightly irritating but were soon in the Taveta bus stand.

Greeted some friends then went to find some accommodation. Market View and Green Park were both fully booked and ended up at Challa Hotel. It didnt have a hood reputation but actually it was very comfortable. 2 nights there and now 2 nights at Market View.

There’s been a lot of cloud and only had a quick glimpse of Kibo. There’s been a fair amount of rain as well, but on Friday the weather was lovely and hot for our visit to Chala to smarten up Dad’s grave. We cleared bits of cement and bits of tiling from when Mercy rebuilt the grave. The tatty cement blocks have been replaced by nice looking tiles. We filled in the area ( as tradition dictates ) with soil that had been taken out when the grave was dug over a year ago. Then we planted flowers. A very successful day.

The return journey on the boda boda, with Joseph deciding to take a short cut through the bush, was very thrilling. A combination of ducking out of the way of thorn bushes and getting off the boda at a dry stream bed to get up the steep bank on the other side.

Am just waiting to sort out my TZ visa.
