I decided to use Ethiopian airlines for the first time. It came highly recommended, but the decision was made easy by the fact they had the cheapest price. Only 7 hours to Addis with a short stopover there, followed by a short 1.5 hours to Nairobi .
The plateau on which Addis is situated was incredibly green and lush and had many meandering rivers. I was always fascinated whilst doing my geography/geology A level by the meandering curves, turns and U bends that could ultimately result in an Ox Bow lake.
Unusually, I whizzed through Kenya immigration in a matter of minutes, with no questions asked. My rucksack was waiting for me on the conveyor belt, and after collecting that I exchanged 4 of 1000 shilling notes before they become illegal on Tuesday.
The taxi into the city was speedy; being a Saturday there weren’t the usual traffic jams. Checked into the same place on Tom Mboya st that I used in June..the Subway htl…..making sure I didn’t get the room on the main road as things get noisy/rowdy on a Saturday night. The hotel still has water issues…..the shower seems ok at first but soon resorts to a trickle. Don’t use too much soap or else rinsing off could be problematical. Being follically challenged is certainly an advantage !!
I eventually found where the Mombasa leave from and I bought a ticket on the 08:00 tomorrow, Sunday.
Have spent time watching UK premier league football and discovered the Hilton now has a Happy Hour, which makes their beer affordable!
Early to bed as I didn’t get a lot of sleep on the plane. And so ends my first major blog.
