I had booked the 06:00 Naekana from Taveta on Thurs 11th. Excellent trip to Mombasa..only 4 hrs 20 mins. Got off at Mwembe Tayari and walked down to get the matatu connection to Bamburi. Very slow getting going as there were only 2 of us. Crossed Nyali bridge and at Bombolulu we had to transfer to another matatu. I didn’t know the route but so good to have GPS and maps and able to track my route. Was quite happy that we were headed in the right direction.

By the time I realised where we were, we had just passed the turn off to the aAryana Court htl. I checked in and settled in and was happy with the rate of 1,500ksh. I had beans n chapati for lunch at a local cafe. Bonny came to pick me up mid afternoon and we went to the Mint at Bamburi mwisho just up the road . Then returned to Drips which is near Aryana and next to where I used to stay. After Bonny left I had African sausage on the way back to Aryana.

On Fri I had chapati n chai at the same cafe a couple of mins away. I walked to Pirates on Kenyatta public beach. Met up with Thomas at his little beach shop. Of course he’s bemoaning the lack of business due to corona. I walked up the beach a bit to relax. Headed back early afternoon in the heat…it’s about a half hour walk. Bought a bag of of crisps to munch on along the way.

Waited a while for Bonny but it was worth it as he drove us over the bridge to Mtwapa and to the Moorings … a floating bar that was being refurbished in Dec. Such a good location…in Mtwapa Creek. The drinks were a bit expensive but understandable. Went back via Drips. I had some sausage on the way to the hotel.

Sat 13th. Waited about 3 hours for Bonny- he had some work commitments. He drove us to his flat for lunch…a lovely biryani cooked by Ann. After lunch we walked across the road to one of his local bars. Had a nice time and left after dark. Drove through some horrible traffic to Drips and he went home. I pushed my way into the bar and bought a can of beer. Soon they switched the TV off and the lights. Was ushered off the premises about 9:20. ; I didn’t realise the closed so early to give the staff time to tidy and get home before curfew. Finished my beer with some African sausage and went to hotel room to do some packing for my Lamu trip the next day.
