Relaxing time on the family ‘commune’ . For my last 2 nights I moved into the bus. It’s used for air bnb, and once the guests moved out I had use of it. It’s comfortable and quirky with its partially covered external bathroom and outside but protected kitchen. Great fun but slightly scary if visiting the toilet in the middle of night because you have to take 3 steps between the bus and toilet. You initially gaze into the darkness to ensure there are no wild animals lurking.

Yesterday we were able to leave the plot in the late afternoon and go to Fisherman’s on the Lake shore for a drink. No sign of any hippos but I didn’t look too hard. We left there for Matteos where we had superb soup and pizza. Whilst there we had torrential rain again.

Heading back to the house was when the fun started. Streams of water flowing down the road. But a kilometre from the house we didn’t notice that the road had been washed away. The car fell into a ditch in the middle of the road. Thick mud , the car was stuck…left back wheel was a foot off the ground.

Attempts to call neighbours were fruitless. 2 staff were contacted and came over. Peter and I decided to walk the kilometre or so to the house to get a land rover to tow the car. We had torches and half the time we were shining at the bushes and looking for buffalo eyes reflecting the light back; then it would’ve been a question of run as fast as you can ! Got the land rover but it had no headlights so I had to stand up holding a torch and pointing it at the road so Peter could see where he was driving. Eventually we manoeuvres the land rover into a position where I could tow Peter’s car out of the muddy hole. Car not damaged and I drove the land rover back to the house. About 40 yrs since I’ve driven a land rover.

All ended well…with a shot of whisky to congratulate ourselves on a successful 2 hours rescue mission. The it rained heavily again…..which thankfully it held off doing whilst we were towing etc.

Was dropped off by Peter this morning in Naivasha. Met up with old mate and drinking buddy..Carkey. Good catch up for an hour and a half before I caught Matatu to Nairobi.. Seemed to take an hour longer than it should….bad roads.
