Spent the afternoon relaxing at the Merica htl with the WiFi. In the evening I had a delicious chicken & rice dish at my hotel and an even more delicious chicken/ rice the next day. The Mid Rift hotel is very comfortable but a little busy at times.
The following day Wed I got a Bodaboda up to Menengai crater. It’s not really, geologically speaking a crater, but a caldera because when the volcano erupted spewing out magma….a vast empty void was created for the volcano to fall into. The guy at the top wanted 2000ksh entrance fee but I refused and we settled on 1000. The rim is 485mtrs from the caldera floor; the whole thing is 90 sqkms in area with a 12km diameter. So although it’s impressive I wouldn’t say it’s spectacular. I followed the guy’s suggestion and followed the rim around and down until I got to a place from where a 2km walk took me to the main road to Nakuru. So, I paid 400ksh to get to the top ( quite steep and nearly a half hour ride) but only 30 to get back by matatu.
Rest of the day relaxing at the Merica hot. The next day Kim accompanied me to the matatu stage ( the biggest I’ve ever seen ) and at 10 I was on my to Naivasha. Had a front seat so I could see the zebra and baboons ahead and have my camera ready for pics.
Arrived Naivasha after an hour and a quarter; dis some shopping for Peter; got the matatu to Mateus restaurant where I had a beer. Ordered a boda boda to take me to Milimani , the family plot. So exciting as along the way we passed a giraffe at the side of the road…literally only a few feet away. So, just hanging out the last couple of days. Staying in Theodora’s little house as she’s away in Nairobi. Oh, I stayed up and saw on buffalo come to water trough to drink. Despite their size, being black they are hard to see in the dark….but there was a full moon and that helped a bit !
