Well, a whole week to write about but actually nothing very much happened. Got up not too early on the 18th in Lamu to catch my flight back to Mombasa. The flight left half an hour late…at 12:00…and I thought that might scupper my plan to get to Taveta in one day, rather than stay over in Mombasa and catch an early matatu the next day. Anyway, got a taxi from the airport to mwembe tayari and within 25 mins I was on my way to Taveta. My back was playing up, and it was a six hour journey, and I was sitting at the back feeling all the bumps. I didn’t enjoy the ride and we arrived at 7:30 and it was dark. I had a cup of tea near the stage and retired to my room.

On Saturday I met my friend Michael for a drink at the Prison canteen. On Sunday he bought me a fish and ugali lunch at the Prison canteen. But prior to that I went Joseph along some narrow country paths to a small bar that served Mbege. There’s a small Chagga community who on Sundays sell traditional Mbege.

Apart from that, not much happened. So, Monday to Thursday I passed the time in and around Taveta spending time with my friends and enjoying Eunace’s food.

Forgot to mention that when I was en route back from MSA on the 18th, Mike Potter called , saying he was in Addis and wanted to come and see me in Mombasa. I put him off for a week…and anyway he had visas and PCR tests to sort out. But basically we agreed it all and on Thurs 25 I booked a Naekana to go back to Mombasa on 26th. That gave me something to get my head around…How do I entertain a UK friend in Kenya for 2 weeks ?? Decided the focus was on the coast from Lamu to Shimoni. Anyway, something fun to look forward to on Fri 26th.
