Okay let’s kick off 2021 and let the future unfold.

The new year began with torrential rain…rivers of water everywhere. I’d received a call from Rupert ( friend of Dad’s) from L Jipe to say his car was playing up and could I recommend a mechanic. I arranged for someone to meet me at the hotel but by the time negotiations had started, Rupert had arranged for someone to go out from Voi. Then I phoned again to check the effect of any rain…well, it was raining just as hard there.

The rain lasted a couple of hours, then I was able to go out and have my maize lunch as usual…but no cycle ride. Rupert, Esther and Maria arrived after 8 p.m. to stay the night at Market View, and I was treated to chicken n chips for dinner. They left after breakfast the next day.

Nothing much happened the next couple of days. A couple of visits to Garden Park bar with a friend. A couple of days when I had no appetite in the evening and had just a chapati those evenings…at least dinner only cost me 15pence !

One day I got fascinated by a dragonfly overhead and I tried to take some interesting pics of it. Very interesting !! On the 6th I met a FB friend and old friend of the family for a drink at the prison canteen (bar). The original canteen (bar) which was circular with a makuti roof and where I went a few times with Dad, had fallen down and replaced with a brick structure . Michael turned up 45 mins late, but he did come from the other side of town and we had had another downpour.

Thurs 7th, I purchased my Naekana ticket to Mariakani for the following day as part of my trip to Kilifi. I also bought some honey to help a friend of Carkey’ s ..Daniel..who was security guard at L Chala lodge and who had lost his voice!! I had to get it on the 8:30 bus the next morning and hope it would meet up with Daniel who was catching that bus a half hour into its journey. Well, it worked. All that was left for me to do was to pack my small backpack for the journey and be prepared to leave the remaining rucksack and bike with Mercy the next morning. My Matatu wasn’t until 10 anyway.
