13th Apr…I took my time in Holili. Climbed ‘snake’ mountain briefly. Had a mbege at the market. Waited for Mercy to cross over so I could treat her to a kiti moto. Delicious as usual. Got back to Taveta after dark.
22nd..for something different I took Mercy to Gachau’s pool/bar. That was fun.
25th..decided to put crossing the border to the test again; checking visa validity. It about 2.5 hours with a couple of changes to get to Tarakea. Good to see Emil and stay somewhere familiar. Kilimanjaro looked fantastic in the mornings. I treated Emil to all the drinks and kiti moto meals. He is struggling financially and Tz is so cheap for me anyway. I returned on the 27th…only an hour to get all the way to Holili…all downhill of course. Had to have a kiti moto at Dubai before crossing. No problems with immigration. Oh, I checked on my Guava tree at Emil’s and it’s doing fine.
29th..Nice pics of Kilimanjaro…finally on view from Taveta. Carkey had arrived the previous day but on the 29th I took him for kiti moto at Mamka’s. They were pleased to catch up…it had been a few years. On the way back Carkey was apprehended for taking photos at the border. I think it was about 20 minutes before he was let go and he was fuming. We reached Tvt and he realised they hadn’t returned his ID card. That didn’t help his mood but at least he got some sort of apology and 500ksh. At least that paid for a few drinks and he calmed down a bit.
May 1st I crossed over to Kibanda Hasara with Joseph for more kiti moto. It was unexpectedly delicious and we had an enjoyable afternoon just a couple of hundred metres within Tz. The other days I managed to keep busy in taveta doing ordinary room chores and the usual round of meals and bars and meeting friends. One Sunday I met up with Isaac at Green Park to watch his team ManU play.
6th…crossed over to Holili for another kiti moto at Dubai; thought it would be good to make use of my Tz visa before it expired the following week. After just over 3 weeks I was getting itchy feet and it was time to move on. Figured that it wasn’t too long before I leave for England so I needed to do a bit of travelling around Kenya. On Sat 7th I bought a ticket to Malindi for Sunday morning. I thought the cost of 1,500ksh wasn’t too bad considering the distance. Oh, I forgot to mention I treated Joseph to a kiti moto at Rockland; they’ve just started offering that. Wow, that’s a lot of kiti moto recently. I’d already packed and was ready to go.
