Well, received the email inviting me to work for Sasa, on Sunday morning. Went to the border at midday and got my Business visa. Things went smoothly as I knew both officials on the Kenya and Tanzanian side. The TZ one was more critical as he would be issuing the visa, and I bumped into him as I was walking in. I paid the $250 that I was expecting but he said that really I should’ve had a work permit…etc, etc. Celebrated with Mercy with a kiti moto and a few beers at Mamka’s.
On Monday I crossed the border to get the Matatu to Moshi. A big, heavy bag of maize kernels ( one of two ) that split, caused a bit of a delay but I was in no hurry. Managed to check into the Basecha lodge on Boma road. My favourite place as it’s fairly central and yet quiet and with a nice garden. My only huge disappointment was not being able to have the best tandoori chicken ever, as Kaka’s restaurant was closed..being Monday…grrr !!
Caught the 06:30 Kilimanjaro bus, which left from just down the road. Very good journey. Passed the turn off to Soni, where I went to school for six years. Went through Korogwe..where I was born. All went well…and Emil arranged for someone to pick me up from the Dar bus stand. It must’ve taken an hour and a half to travel 5 miles..that was the only negative part of the journey.
Of course I had no idea what to expect, but I’ve been given my own en suite room and being fed delicious meals.
Very rainy..a lot of heavy rain..apparently this is unusual. Yesterday we discussed the nature of the organisation; what needed to be done, and the way forward. Today I was determined to come into the city to use some WiFi. Lots of traffic and I had to stand for an hour and a half. It rained hard this morning but it’s hot and sunny now. I’ll try to upload a couple of pics.
